when we launched our digital imprint in 2013, one of our explicit reasons for doing so was to fund a vinyl label. it may have taken us four years to get to this point, but we’re finally here - fkofv001 is upon us. the debut fatkidonfire physical release sees new artists join our roster. taiko’s untitled grime has been blowing up the dances for a hot minute, championed by the likes of truth, spooky and many more. spooky even named the tune in his fact mag top ten most prized dubplates list! we linked taiko up with mancunian wordsmith skittles (currently smashing it with the levelz crew), and “don’t be stoopid” is the anthemic result. fkof fam and producer extraordinaire district adds an industrial grime-esque flavour to his remix for a killer one-two punch. the two producers collaborate, for the first time ever, on the b-side, entitled “yokai”. it’s a tune that demonstrates why we signed both musicians incredible atmospheres, depth and weight. beau at ten eight seven, as ever, has mastered the tunes to perfection. we’re proud of this release and, on first listen, we hope you’ll hear why...

finally a fresh mcde is announced! new one from long time deep house/broken producer, pablo valentino... . its been four years since label co-founder pablo valentino became a daddy, and almost as old is the idea of him releasing a record on our imprint. so what makes more sense than to dedicate this record to hugo-joão, his son? on -my son s smile- we can hear a recording of hugo-joão s laughter over a mellow, summery house track that has been a big favorite of danilo over the years. with a little help from lyon producer patchworks, who played bass on the track, valentino pulls off one of his most sophisticated productions yet.

the second new york trax imports record is by endlec from thessaloniki, greece, a rising techno star affiliated with the mord records powerhouse. this thunderous concept ep consists of four recordings produced in april and september of 2016 at utr studios in greece. all tracks were programmed and recorded live in one take with almost no changes to their arrangement. the outcome is unbeatable 90s sounding hard and raw techno, which you rarely hear in the present era of artificially polished sound.

conceptual drum n bass album by kos.mos.music, which has been prepared for several years and consists of tracks united in their unordinary commonness. in a word, the general genre of the album is drum n bass, but all the tracks and each in particular are a mixture of different electronic genres based on drum n bass and jungle rhythm. one can hear sounding of idm, ethnic patterns, feel a strong influence of psychedelic electronics and in patches even some techno.

dubtraxx is new on the scene, as is their label rhythm n vibe, but don t let that lull you into a false sense of security this is seriously heavyweight gear. soundbwoy request is especially dangerous, working plenty of dub, reggae and jungle motifs into a rugged garage structure and sounding utterly ruff in the process. towards 99 is no slouch either, albeit on a slightly housier tip than the raucous a-side. the 2000 tribute mix of next millenium meanwhile sneaks out a few of the eerie tones you d expect to hear around the time that dubstep first started to emerge.

by the time mobb deep hit with their third album – hell on earth – they were solidified street legends. coming off the critically acclaimed the infamous, havoc and prodigy hit the lab and came back with a soundtrack that is fitting to its title. havoc’s production is atmospheric, laced with his trademark drums loops and sharp pianos stabs. add prodigy’s trademark flow and it’s evident that the pairing is such an amazing match. while hell on earth is essentially a continuation of the infamous you can still hear the growth in both performers and hell on earth stands as some of their best work. the album features guest appearances by nas, raekwon, method man, and frequent collaborator big noyd.

the trickfinger project was recorded 10 years ago with no intention of being released at the time, made purely for discovery and learning experience. in my opinion, making music with no intention of releasing it is the best thing a musician can do for his own development in this day and age. the trickfinger lp was made in that mindset, and it was the beginning of a new musical life for me. when i hear it, it sounds like i am opening up doorways to new worlds, and i never have had that feeling listening to music i made for the purpose of releasing it and selling it.

whispered words from the ancient earth. the biosphere metaphorically battered by dusty drum machines, synth swept landscapes, industrial hooks that ring out from the barren outback. was is das? die orangen are australian-expats kris baha and dreems, and together they have crafted a genre: krautback rooted in indigenous psychedelia, resonating the vast expanses of the island of gondwanaland, turnt up by progressive cultures, and multiplied by the logic of the german mind. hear the sound of the southern sun melt genres, feel it flow downstream into a languid ocean of sound. beware the punch of the red kangaroo, a bite from the deadly taipan, the neon stare in a tree-frogs eye, and the bleached siren call of the coral reef - these wild sonic reveries ominously soundtrack the future that nature has in store.

the house band of bunny ‘striker’ lee was formed in the mid-1970s by some of jamaica’s most prominent and musically expressive session players. the shifting core line-up spun off from the soul syndicate and thus typically featured earl ‘chinna’ smith and tony chin on guitar and bernard ‘touter’ harvey on organ. carlton ‘santa’ was the main drummer, but carlton barrett of the wailers band and ‘benbow’ creary were sometimes featured. most crucially, on bass, aston ‘family man’ barrett shifted to fully fullwood (and occasionally, earl ‘bagga’ walker), until robbie shakespeare took over, becoming the bandleader. the band was responsible for the popular ‘flying cymbal’ style that took jamaica by storm, and you can hear it in abundance on this killer dub set from 1975, its excellent cuts of cornell campbell and johnnie clarke material mixed at king tubby’s studio - a must for all serious fans of dub.

copenhagens music for dreams comes with yet another strong release - a double album of personal favourites compiled by jan schulte. according to all maps and witness accounts, germany does not officially have any tropical forests. this is of no concern to schulte however, who has unearthed many stunning examples of tropical drum music recorded there. perhaps the number of botanical gardens and palm houses in germany confused musicians into mistaking the climate, or maybe it was just a happy blend of escapism and multi-cultural integration within musical scenes that spawned such a curious output of undefinable tribal folk jazz. most of the tracks picked by schulte were released on small labels in the late 80 s. the musicians involved were mainly traditionally schooled, born and raised in germany. at that time to be interested in foreign folk music might have seemed a gimmick to some, what with the emerging -world music boom- already snowballing into the mainstream. but these songs, while they may be based on musical traditions from foreign lands, deal much more with introspection than exploitation. schulte himself points to his -general fascination for music that describes places where the artists have never been. songs about the jungle or the rainforest made by people that know the rainforest only from television and books. somehow i think you can hear their mythical imagination and fantasy in those tracks,- he explains....

the story of the great roots reggae harmony trio black uhuru is one defined by many unexpected twists and turns. in its best known form, led by michael rose and with founding member duckie simpson and the black american female vocalist, puma jones, the group would enjoy the greatest popularity of any act in the wake of bob marley’s untimely death in 1981, but the origins of the group lay in the turbulent waterhouse district during the mid-1970s. duckie first formed the group as uhuru, the swahili word for unity, with garth dennis as lead singer and don carlos to join him in harmony, after cutting an adaptation of the impressions’ “romancing to the folk song” at dynamics, “time is on our side” at randy’s for clive chin, and “slow coach” for raymond “benno” anderson, dennis drifted into the wailing souls and don carlos went solo, leading duckie to recruit rising waterhouse vocalist michael “tony” rose as lead singer, and errol nelson from the jays for harmony. their debut album, love crisis, was produced, voiced and mixed at king tubby’s studio by prince jammy and remains and outstanding example of jammy’s roots reggae production phase. the song “hard ground” vamps on a similar theme to marley’s “talking blues”: rose sings of a life of everyday hardship, with destitution and homelessness the pervading factors. on the extended dub portion and dub the instrumental cuts that follow the alternate vocal take of this enthralling 12-inch ep, you can hear the non-standard instrumentation that helps make the work so innovative, with winston wright’s harpsichord melody emphasising the hopelessness of rose’s emotive lyrics, the commanding rhythm and understated bass and guitar from robbie shakespeare and chinna smith completing the picture.

after inaugurating the label with a first ep in december of 2014, innershades returns home to deliver what will be the 6th release on 9300 records. kerrebroek memories is the self made soundtrack of his childhood memories in the shared hometown of aalst (belgium). expect to hear a homage to early dutch electro with a modern twist and innershades well known trademark for dancefloor injected house tracks. rising dutch star and new bff of the belgian 9300 family betonkust polished the a1-listed darkness fades track into a melodious electro classic.

after the first release in june 2016 and #002 following in early 2017, the berlin- based imprint through these eyes is ready to announce the next release. this time it features two heavy jungle tracks by austrian based artist sun people. on the name giving a-side of his through these eyes release sun people uses an iconic vocal sample, adds a gut-wrenching 95 style bass-line and tops it all off with some of the finest razor sharp percussions in the genre to deliver one of the most stomping tunes you ll hear this summer. nu gun on the flipside gets a lot more dubby with it s perfect jungle beat edits and moody chord stabs - all that laid out over a well known vocal sample. it can easily be considered a prime example of sun people s signature sound which is heavily rooted in dub, jungle and juke/footwork.

here it is... a project i unofficially had done since 06Æ. it started when dilla passed february of 06. to cope with the death of my unofficial musical mentor & favorite producer, i started making donuts, uncontrollably. i never planned to release any of the material out of respect for dilla & his craft. iÆve shared some of the music with others, in which they would constantly ask me to hear it, so i decided to put a lil sumthing together and make it official. just for yall. this is a collection of beats i made in 06. some donuts style, some just around that era of 14kt beats. now & laters was always a favorite candy of mine. i used to go to mindells pharmacy in ypsi back in the day and buy all of them. sadly i even stole change from my grandmaÆs (rip) purse for them. ironically, i fell back in love with now and laters around this era. enjoy. 14kt

having already blessed the airwaves with their masked boiler room performance, and with releases and features seen on yume, huntley’s & palmers, permanent vacation and antho- ny napel’s probito, the promising talents of edinburgh duo hi & saberha&#776,gen continue on lo with ‘acid finger’. the five track ep showcases exactly what the pair are known for, exploring the balance of the subtle and direct natures of dance music. there is something extremely unique about their productions that breathes new life into an arguably stat- ic climate. ‘acid finger’ travels from highs to lows at a consistent and co- herent pace, starting with the sparkling, disco tinged ‘force&#769, boi&#770,te’. euphoric heights are executed through light flourish- ing synth lines, drum patters and chord stabs. ‘woodrum’ maintains the pace but switches the tone with jungle rhythms and a pounding bass. ominous belter ‘git’ with its driving kick, looped vocal sample and rolling bass. the track develops into a hopeful finish with the introduction of glittering synth movements. title track ‘acid finger’ delivers beautifully delicate percus- sive and melodic work that progressively shapes up against fleeting shrill synth lines that come to a fitting crescendo. ending the release is the melancholic atmospheres created in ‘redacted’, bringing a shift in mood and imitating a trudge through memory lane. expect to see and hear a lot more from these guys in the future..

quazarz came to the earth from somewhere else, a musical ambassador from his place to ours. somehow, through fire or through fury, the palaceer of shabazz palaces caught wind of the tale, and it is through his prism that we hear the story. the beach was there, and atlaantiis, and chemical alterations and cell memories and andre norton, richard k. morgan, and always octavia butler. there were killings and there were votes, and brutality in both. there was sound and there were other worlds, and there was a vastness so participation sometimes came only at the edges. and the palaceer coasted down with the alien notion, like quazarz, and so became. on quazarz when they look at this place they see the inhabitants, the humans, but they don’t assess as we do. and so quazarz was sent to meet a cat with vibration, a creative and courageous, caring, compassionate dude that stood out. the dude was a drug dealer, but that was neither here nor there, until his dealings squashed the rendezvous, leaving our alien alone to figure out what this place is really all about. the vinyl release includes a download code.

we ve waited a long time to bring you this, and finally, tiger stripes presents the 6th release on his strange idols label, and what a track this is, so worth waiting for! from its beginnings as a moodymann secret weapon, you could already hear the potential for underground techno greatness. running is both haunting and seductive... underground but strangely familiar... artificial but still organic...a living breathing techno organism...a creature of the dark.... a siren s call... let yourself be drawn in, let the voice seduce you... surround yourself with that rhythm... drown yourself in that groove...! san proper heard it a little differently and gave us his take on it, and gave life to a different kind of monster, way too powerful to contain. so we give you two different versions that share the same fundamental dna, two versions that are both so completely unique but still two equal parts of the same fantastic organism. strange idols will lead those who are willing.

the 3 release. 3 artists. 3 solid tracks. rex hansson has made a solid original version. you clearly hear his skills as a past percussionist. the beats together with skånska vocals, low key rhodes and some 303 knob twiddling make this track special and great. emil nyman. this mix is something. it’s tossing and turning from a metallic sound to the softest wood. from the deepest parts of the ocean we follow the pads and organ up in the sky. the b side is dedicated clark eng. a minimal offbeat version with low toms and rattling high sticks, claps and snares. the track is moving like a newcomen engine. the minor changes all the time makes it to a hypnotic minimal house track.

incl julius steinhoff version (smallville) ...telfort returns with a third 12inch on his own imprint, following the aptly titled debut in a good place and stellar follow-up lickety split. his best yet, the edinburgh-based producer drops the evocative and soul-stirring soon i will embark on a journey, with its immense, alluring melody and downright addictive grooves. on the flip, the hazy and hypnotic æuntil nowÆ takes us further on the journey with its shimmering textures and mesmeric flow, radiating warmth through mind-soothing chords and gritty percussion. further on, we hear a reinterpretation from julius steinhoff, co-founder of smallville records and half of smallpeople. serene and smooth but equally stomping and floor-ready, the melancholic strings and trickling percussion slowly develop and captivate in a sublime and entirely fitting rework.

karen gwyer returns to cement her reputation as one of the most individual and daring voices in dance music with rembo , her first full lp for don t be afraid, following a debut on the label in late 2016 with the prophase anaphase metaphase telophase ep. reflecting the sheer energy of gwyer s improvised, undulating and unpredictable live shows, rembo captures gwyer in her element as a techno producer not afraid to smudge both the physical and emotional edges of what we may have come to expect in the club. live performance is where gwyer s ideas come into gradual but vivid fruition, with tracks often evolving over -five or six shows- before reaching the studio. here, gwyer endeavours to capture the same transcendent energy that has seen her enrapture audiences at international events such as mutek and unsound, and in support of contemporaries such as laurel halo, kassem mosse and factory floor. throughout rembo , dozens of shows and endless stolen studio hours have informed 38 minutes of uncompromising body music. rembo is a record that calls firmly to the night, an album to transport both artist and listener to dark, sweaty rooms, to shared escapism and unexpected moments of electronic transcendence. from the first note forward, on record and in the club, karen gwyer is an artist in total control, no matter where she ends up taking us

next up, we return to what we do best introducing a brand new project to get excited about. norwegian pandreas delivers some of that melodic goodness just in time for summer. with early support from jackmaster and prins thomas, you can expect to hear these at a festival near you.

bomb after bomb! a new my rules records original coming straight from label boss justin van der volgen. fresh off the back of his latest ep which featured peak-time versions of shit robot s lose control and felix dickinson s burning flame , this one sees him on a whole other but no less floor-filling trip. coming in regular and dub mixes, no vacancy sounds like a lost brooklyn dub-soca-reggae-house classic. the a side charges with warped machine percussion, chanting vocals, a militant rhythm section and a seriously heavy bass line. flip to the b side and check justin s impressive dub skills. stripping the track back, he maintains complete propulsive energy, all the while adding plenty of psychedelic twists sure to melt minds. expect to hear your favourite leftfield, deep-digging, big room selector dj ripping the dance all year with this.

making a splash with rs019 is a newcomer called mallard. discovered by bradley after being front and centre for almost every rs dance since 2016, the south london based producer and multi-instrumentalist makes a serious first impression with his debut ep ‘verte’.
currently studying jazz double-bass at trinity school of music, mallard’s productions demonstrate a keen ear for groove with a level of musicality rarely heard in electronic productions. at just 20 years old, he has already developed a unique sound palette and prodigious production style set to make him a name we will only hear more of in the years to come.
this ep, at once varied in tone and tempo is held together by a strong sonic identity and an overarching artistic vision: from the morphing polyrhythmic percussion of ‘surface’ to the shifting, heady pattern of ‘aquitaine’ via the psychedelic breaks of ‘untitled’ we are taken on quite the trip.

sometimes amongst all the music that we hear every day, something comes along so unique and brilliant that its captivates your mind and soul and refuses to let go. that was exactly what happened when we first heard dokta - the ex-studio engineer with the freshest take on electronic music we have heard for a long time. fusing a fully analog working method & live instrumentation with a breathtakingly unique arrangement style, dokta combines all his experience working with some of the best in the business and transcends it into one hypnotic stream of genre defying mastery. for his first ep on 20/20 we are fortunate enough to have remixes from fabric resident jay clarke, and a collaborative contribution from seth troxler and bas ibellini. it is a major milestone for 20/20 to finally have a seth troxler production on the label. he has been a great inspiration for us and hugely supportive of our output over the years. seth went into the studio with good friend bas and came out with a remix worthy of dokta s long abstract arrangements. we hope you enjoy, and with an album in the pipeline for later this year we promise there is a lot more to come

from time to time, you hear an ep and instantly can sense that it’s going to be significant. sad girl seasonal affective disorder does what few manage to do - it tells us not only a story from different perspectives but describes the journey of the heart and mind when losing someone we love - the conflicting emotions when we hurt and the evolution of emotions we experience as we heal. it achieves this by using a rich and diverse collection of sounds as its vocabulary, and a brilliant integration and structure as its grammar. also, this strategy manages to give each track its unique character, allowing them to stand on their own.

thomas schumacher is finally back on noir music with another outstanding 2-tracker. over the years me and thomas have become great friends as we click on so many levels and share the same taste in dark, melancholic and emotional music. i have been a big fan of thomas’ music for many years and i am still a great supporter of his productions today so obviously i am honored to release his music on my label again. on these 2 tracks thomas has recorded 2 authentic and raw tracks with a no holding back, zero bulls*** attitude. you can hear the “no formular” approach on both and i love that. we had an honest and creative back and forth a&r process on both tracks before and after testing them in the clubs and this has given both a unique and fresh techno sound. this is thomas schumacher’s natural rhythm.

originally released in 1986, “alkaid” was the first solo release of deca following his debut appearance on the cult various artists compilation “angelo segreti” the original edition was published in a tiny edition on the independent italian label videoradio and to this day remains a rare and sought after album. following mothball and bordello’s continued work with deca, we are proud to make this diverse and fascinating collection of music available to a wider audience. on this instrumental lp we can hear elements of modern classical, synth-pop, dark ambient and even some middle eastern influence.
